Learn more about Sherbrooke Community Centre

February 25, 2016

iGen-Sherbrooke news.jpgSaskatoon’s Sherbrooke Community Centre is a warm and welcoming place that is home to 263 Residents, 100 Community Day Program participants, 500 volunteers, families, friends, students, pets, and more than 500 staff members.

Like any small town, it is a community of people with aspirations, dreams, and a desire to live life to the fullest. At Sherbrooke, residents work, play, shop, worship, paint, garden, sing, dance, and volunteer.

An Elder at Sherbrooke is interchangeable with the terms resident and care partner. Sherbrooke defines an Elder as someone who, by virtue of life experience, is here to teach us and is deserving of our respect. By definition, being an Elder has little to do with age, there are many younger people living at Sherbrooke.

Sherbrooke's Care Partner concept implies a balance of care, an acknowledgment that opportunities to give as well as receive care are abundant and experienced by everyone involved in the care relationship. The term Care Partner evens the playing field, as it is often easy to get trapped in a one-dimensional experience of the caring relationship. Care Partners include: Elders/Residents, families, staff, volunteers and students.
