About Our School
Brunskill School is a kindergarten to Grade 8 elementary school located just three blocks south of the University of Saskatchewan campus. Opened in 1951, our school was named after William Cy Brunskill, a dedicated member of the Saskatoon Public School Board for 28 years. In 2000, the school was renovated and it is a comfortable and safe facility in which to learn.

Enrolment at Brunskill School is about 430 students, including the therapeutic preschool in the adjoining Kinsmen Children's Centre (KCC). Brunskill is staffed with approximately 24 teachers, six teacher associates, three caretakers, an administrative assistant, a vice principal and a principal. With other Saskatoon Public Schools, we share the services of a speech language pathologist, school psychologist, school counsellor and social worker. We also have access to many other consultants and resources from within Saskatoon Public Schools. Brunskill staff is committed to inspiring, leading and teaching our students so they may develop into citizens of the world who are proficient life-long learners.

Brunskill is home to numerous on-site and off-site programs associated with our school. In addition to KCCs therapeutic preschool, we have an off-site program called the Royal University Hospital School Program: Homebound, in which hospitalized school-aged children receive educational support.

Brunskill School has a special feeling about it. We attract students from countless walks of life. Approximately two-thirds of our students reside outside our immediate community. Many parents who choose to send their children to Brunskill work at Royal University Hospital, the University of Saskatchewan or related science and technology centres in Saskatoon. We boast a diverse population, as some of our parents are, themselves, international students working or studying at the university.

Our regular academic programming includes full day, alternating day kindergarten, grades 1 to 8 classes and band (grades 6 to 8). We also have two resource teachers who specialize in programming for students with intensive needs or learning disabilities. Our model for supporting these students is evolving to include resource teachers in the classroom to collaborate and co-teach with classroom teachers.

In alignment with the Saskatoon Public Schools strategic plan, Brunskill has identified two main areas of focus evident in all aspects of our school life. Over the past five years, Brunskill has embraced a Literacy for Life initiative along with mathematics renewal. Consequently, we are pleased to report that our students' reading and comprehension results have been exemplary. At the same time, mathematics is being taught in a manner that promotes a deeper understanding, conveying a better sense that mathematics is a part of our daily lives.

Brunskill offers numerous extracurricular activities. School sports include cross country running, volleyball, basketball, indoor track, and outdoor track and field. We also offer an intramural program for students across all grade levels. Musical opportunities include junior choir and dramatic theatre. Other extracurricular activities include Student Representative Council and coding club.

Brunskill School is a vibrant and progressive school where learning is inspired and sustained. This dynamic environment is achieved by involving our students and staff in a safe and meaningful way, where all members of our school community are proud to say, "I'm from Brunskill!"
