Learning, community at the heart of Hugh Cairns V.C. School

March 31, 2016

HughCairns_logo.jpgHugh Cairns V.C. School has a reputation for providing strong academic and diverse extracurricular programs, creating exemplary student-teacher relationships and building outstanding community spirit.

Our school is highly respected for its learning program and the opportunities offered to students for expression in the visual and performing arts, athletics and technology, experiential learning in and outside school and student leadership.

Our students reflect the home and school partnerships forged to develop each child's confidence, competence and sense of contribution. In annual student surveys, our Grade 5 to Grade 8 students report liking their school, feeling respected by their teachers, supported and engaged in their learning, involved in daily physical activity, and having a sense of well-being -- at levels above the Canadian norms.

Hugh Cairns offers parents a number of opportunities to be involved in their child’s education and as part of the larger school community and the school is supported by the efforts of the parent-led the School Community Council and Parent Council.

Our vibrant, neighbourhood school offers full-day, alternate day kindergarten program, Grade 1-8 classrooms with regular, enriched and adapted programming, a learning resource centre with elementary, young adult and parent collections, as well as a music program for kindergarten to Grade 5 students and band for Grades 6-8 under the instruction of a music/band specialist.

Hugh Cairns is also home to a before- and after-school program provided by the Boys and Girls Club of Saskatoon and we host Discovery Preschool for three- and four-year-olds.
