Bienvenue. Welcome to École River Heights School. We are proud to provide quality educational opportunities in a dual-track program for English students from Preschool to Grade 8 as well as for French Immersion students from Kindergarten to Grade 8. Approximately 400 students attend our school, with about 50% attending each program. Our English students are drawn primarily from the River Heights area. Our French Immersion students are transported to our school by bus from the City Park, North Park, Brownell, Silverwood and Lawson Heights communities. Beginning this fall, 2011, our school will be offering Late French Immersion to students from the areas indicated above who are entering Grade 6 and who have no previous background in French. This is a wonderful opportunity for students who missed out on the French option earlier in their school careers, to join the French program and work towards their bilingual certificate when they graduate from Grade 12.
"Reaching Greater Heights" is our school's motto and we strive to bring these words to life in various ways. Our school is known for its strong academic focus, and for providing students with opportunities to grow in the areas of athletics, arts, citizenship and community. We value the importance of community at École River Heights School and work hard to ensure that students, families and staff feel a strong sense of belonging. We are a nutrition positive school, encouraging healthy eating and exercise by being In Motion. We are a green school, grounded in the belief that Green is the new Black. We encourage students, staff and the community to be environmentally friendly. Our very successful campaign to reduce vehicles idling near our school has helped make our air cleaner. Our enthusiastic cheerleading team has been Provincial Champions for the past two years.
We are delighted to have the Park Heights Creative Preschool Cooperative located in École River Heights School. For more information about this Preschool, please call Mrs. Colleen Cole at 931-7818.
We are also pleased to house the River Heights Before and After School Program, which operates from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. For more information on this program, please call Ms Kelly McCallen at 979-2066 or 251-1037.
