Welcome to Silverwood Heights School! Children who attend our school participate in a variety of exciting academic and extra-curricular opportunities. We take pride in graduating students who are actively concerned about preserving our environment, developing culturally responsive citizens and focusing on standards of excellence across all curricula. With the support of our active School Community Council and volunteer parents we have implemented a school-wide recycling program. For example, our Green Team collects lunchroom waste for our school composts throughout the school year. Then, in spring, our Team sells organic soil to parent gardeners in order to sustain our schools recycling program. Our students and staff learn together how to implement environmentally-friendly strategies into our daily lives in an effort to preserve our environment.
Our students participate in weekly First Nations and Métis activities to strengthen students knowledge and understanding for all ways of knowing. We are proud to include in our student population people from all over the world, including Canada. We believe in providing education for all children.
As part of the Saskatoon Public Schools family we take pride in engaging our student learners. Students participate in Literacy for Life initiatives at all grade levels. In addition to focusing on math, social studies and science curricula we have a Fine Arts specialist and Physical Education specialist. Our students have access to an excellent collection of resources both in print and electronically. Our parents -- through their fundraising efforts -- have supplied Silverwood Heights School with computers and will continue to focus on upgrading our computer lab to ensure our students are able to take advantage of current technology opportunities. Thanks to our active parent fundraising committee, our teaching staff is outfitted with a speaker sound system in every classroom.
Silverwood Heights is home to one of two Saskatoon Public Schools' Step Ahead Preschools. To complement this program, we have a Sensory Room (integral to this program) which is also available to students from Grades 1 through 8. Our staff is dedicated to ensuring that all our students who require intensive supports have access to our Body Break room and equipment. We believe that Silverwood Heights School should be accessible to all students.
Silverwood Heights is a small school located in Saskatoon's north end. A small school setting has advantages: children are known by all staff, feel part of a caring environment, and demonstrate respectful behaviour. At our school, morning announcements are made by students. Caught You Awards are presented to students every day (i.e., our staff catches students behaving respectfully and enters their names into daily draws). A variety of extracurricular activities are available to all students throughout the year.
Our school is also home to the Silverwood Heights Cooperative Preschool operated by parents. Our Extended Day program is available for students needing to be at school prior to, and after, the academic school day.
