Vincent Massey Community School is a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive educational centre situated in the Massey Place area on Saskatoon's west side. With an enrolment of approximately 300 students, our school offers Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8, including full-day, everyday Kindergarten. Currently, we have 43 energetic and caring staff members who assist with academic programming from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8. Regular and adaptive programming is provided at all levels in addition to resource support. Our school-wide academic focus is Assessment for Learning emphasizing PRIME Math (i.e., Professional Resources and Instruction for Mathematics Educators), along with Guided Math Groups, Inquiry Learning, Guided Reading Groups (highlighting reading comprehension strategies), and the Read to Succeed program. Our staff includes a Community Coordinator, Community School Educational Assistants, a Literacy Teacher, and two Resource Teachers. Additional service is provided by a School Counselor/Social Worker, a Speech-Language Pathologist, an Educational Psychologist, a Public Health Nurse, a Police Resource Officer, and the University of Saskatchewan Dental Program.
As a community school, Vincent Massey offers a daily nutritious snack for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 4, as well as breakfast and lunch for students in need. In partnership with our School Community Council, we employ a half-time Nutrition Coordinator who provides ongoing nutrition education for all our students.
Vincent Massey is much more than a traditional elementary school. It is the centre of the community where parents, students, community residents, business partners, agencies, and school staff work together to improve the quality of education and community life for all area residents. Our school serves as the community hub offering a variety of programs and activities that assist in the development and well-being of our entire community. These initiatives include: Band for Grade 6, 7 and 8 students; Authors Club; Art Club; Handbell Choir; Skipping Club, In Motion, a variety of sports programs, and a wide range of extra-curricular options. Our school is part of the Heart of the City piano program where students are given the opportunity to learn how to play the piano. At Vincent Massey, we welcome, honour, and celebrate a diversity of cultures. We operate a Culture Club and have access to Traditional Knowledge Keepers. As well, our community has developed several programs that are offered during the evenings and weekends.
Our school works closely with community agencies that support and benefit our families. A Before and After School Program provides daycare service within our building. Adult programming, parent programming, and a clothing depot are also housed within our school.
Our students proudly developed the following mission statement that identifies our values and beliefs. This is truly a wonderful school community and we invite you to visit us for a tour.
