About Our School

Mount Royal Collegiate is a comprehensive secondary school located on the corner of Rusholme Road and Avenue W in Saskatoon. We are proud of our strong academics, variety of elective course offerings and extra curricular opportunities for all students. Mount Royal opened in 1960, added comprehensive Practical and Applied Arts shops/labs in 1967 (commercial cooking, home economics, wood construction, welding, mechanics, machining, electronics), and expanded further in 2004 with a cosmetology lab and renovated graphic arts studio. Contributing to Mount Royals Facility Advantage is a current renovation/expansion which will see 17 million dollars of upgrades take place over the next 18 months. These upgrades include: a new joint-use Learning Resource Centre, enhanced computer labs and technology throughout the building, a new fitness centre, a new band/music classroom, renovated practical and applied arts labs, and a multicultural addition.

Post-Secondary Opportunities at Mount Royal Collegiate

One reason for our current renovations is to provide a home base for the Saskatoon Trades and Skills Centre at Mount Royal Collegiate which offers quick skills courses to young adults looking to transition to the world of work. Additionally, our post-secondary partners the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (Saskatoon's Kelsey Campus), Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies, and Dumont Technical Institute -- will be offering academic programming in the north wing of our facility starting in September 2010.

Royal West Campus is a satellite facility located two blocks west of our main campus that is home to approximately 250 students (18+ years of age) who are looking to finish their Grade 12 requirements or upgrade for post-secondary opportunities. Also housed at Royal West is the University of Saskatchewan Transitions Program where students can take up to three first-year Arts and Sciences courses before successfully transitioning onto the main U of S campus.

Diversity and Programming

Mount Royal Collegiate is known for its caring and committed staff. Students who join our Mount Royal family can expect to receive support from all our staff a group of dedicated individuals who regularly go above and beyond to help students achieve success. At Mount Royal, our diversity is our strength! We are proud to have First Nation, Inuit and Métis students comprise a significant portion of our student population. In addition, Mount Royal is home to a flourishing English as an Additional Language (EAL) program for students from around the world. During the school year, Mount Royal hosts several culturally responsive events, including our Multicultural Day and annual Powwow.

Mount Royal offers a number of unique high school programs and classes. In addition to our many hands-on electives, we are home to two unique Saskatoon Public Schools programs:

  • High School Carpentry Apprenticeship Program (H.C.A.P.) This one- semester program provides students with six credits, 400 apprenticeship hours, and an often-times life-changing experience for students. In H.C.A.P., students work with another of our partners -- Habitat for Humanity -- to build a house for a family in need.
  • Aviation Maintenance Orientation Program (A.M.O.P.) This two-credit program is held in the afternoons during semester one of the school year. Students from across Saskatoon learn the basics of aircraft maintenance while obtaining work experience in the aviation industry. Successful graduates may consider a career in the aviation field.

Mount Royal Collegiate and Royal West Campus provide a world of opportunity for students and young adults. Considering Mount Royals wide variety of dynamic course offerings, its Facility Advantage, and its exciting array of extracurricular teams and clubs, there really is something here for everybody!
