Prekindergarten expanding at four schools in January

December 01, 2021

BVoutdoor6.jpgPrekindergarten classrooms are being added at more elementary schools to respond to the needs of children and families.

Beginning in January 2022, a half-day prekindergarten program will be introduced at École Lakeview and Lawson Heights schools, while a second class will be added to existing programs at Buena Vista and École Forest Grove schools.

Saskatoon Public Schools offers prekindergarten programming where children may benefit from additional supports such as speech, language, and social development programming. Prekindergarten offers a family-like atmosphere and explores the healthy development of the whole child— social, emotional, physical, intellectual. and wonder — with teachers designing age-appropriate, play-based learning experiences.

Prekindergarten helps three- and four-year-old children to:

  • develop language and communication skills,
  • develop problem-solving skills,
  • learn to co-operate with others,
  • make new friendships,
  • prepare for the school environment.

Children who would benefit most from enhanced programming are prioritized for enrolment. All applications will be reviewed by the school team and priority will be given to students who reside in the school catchment (neighbourhood) area, are of the appropriate age, and most benefit from enhanced programming. Programs will prioritize these criteria and place four-year-old children first.

Families wishing to register their child for prekindergarten should contact the school.
