The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) and Saskatoon Public Schools have collaboratively decided to move Centennial Collegiate to Level 4 of the provincial Safe Schools Plan. This means all classes will move to online learning through December 18 and there will be no in-class instruction for the remainder of the quint. The move to online learning is effective Thursday, December 3.
To date, Centennial Collegiate has had 16 positive cases of COVID-19, which has resulted in the temporary closure of 25 classes as students were directed to self-isolate. The numerous disruptions have made it difficult for staff to deliver instruction for all students.
Classes will run as scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, allowing teachers to provide direction to students on how the remaining classes will move forward. The SHA will continue to monitor and support the school. The collegiate is expected to return to in-class instruction for the beginning of Quint 3 on January 4.
Since the start of the school year, Saskatoon Public Schools has had 96 positive cases at 36 locations in the division – 35 schools and the board office.
The safety of our students and staff members is our first priority. The safety protocols our schools have put in place are critical to reducing the risk of transmission. Mask requirements, proper hand hygiene, physical distancing when possible, and cohorting classes are all measures our schools have implemented to help protect students and staff members. These measures will significantly reduce the spread of the virus.
