Saskatoon Public Schools offers online learning for Kindergarten to Grade 12. Kindergarten to Grade 8 is offered out of City Park School as one of our unique programs.
The Elementary Online Learning Centre (OLCE) program is available in both French Immersion and English. It was newly offered in 2020 and students use Google Classroom as the learning management system. Online learning is different from home schooling and supplemental learning. Kindergarten to Grade 8 students will take all required Saskatchewan curriculum areas of study. Students will be in classrooms by grade and will have a homeroom teacher. Students can expect to connect with their teacher(s) 'live' for a minimum of 150 minutes a day (75 minutes for kindergarten), in a combination of large group, small group, and individual online instruction between 8:55 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Elementary teachers will be available for support during the rest of the school day.
Virtual classrooms are comparable in size and composition to other live classrooms and will include students from a variety of schools and backgrounds. Students are potentially from various cities in Saskatchewan, but most live in Saskatoon. The exact composition of the virtual classroom will be based on enrolment and may contain multi-grade combined classrooms. Online programming will be provided through both synchronous (the teacher online with the students at the same time) and asynchronous (students access course content on their own at any time with the support of a teacher when necessary) delivery systems.
- We know that multiple transitions throughout the school year adversely affect student success, therefore students should register until Jan, 2022, (the first of our two terms for the 2021-22 school year). If a transition is requested, the OLCE will work to transition students as seamlessly as possible, preferably at this time.
- After Jan, 2022, elementary students will not be able to transfer between in-person and online programs for the remainder of the school year.
