Academic excellence, character, engagement, and well-being of students are at the heart of Saskatoon Public Schools new strategic plan.
"Our school division is not only starting a new year, but we are beginning a new journey. Starting right now, we are following our new strategic plan. This strategic plan makes clear what is most important to our organization – our vision, our student goals, our commitment," said Ray Morrison, chair of the Saskatoon Board of Education.
"This plan is focused on students, above all else. It begins with a vision of what we want to achieve for every young person who walks through our school doors. Our vision is this – Every Student is Known, Valued, and Believed In. It's a grand vision, but it is one I know we can achieve through focusing on our student goals and our commitment."
The plan, which will guide the school division's work during the next five years, was designed to be a clear vision that would resonate with students, staff, parents and caregivers, and the larger community. It emphasizes Saskatoon Public Schools' commitment to students.
It was developed through consultation with parents, students, staff, and community partners. The feedback received focused on preparing students for an evolving world and highlighted the necessary skills, character traits, and knowledge that students will need for their future. That helped identify four student goals – Academic Excellence, Character, Engagement, and Well-Being – and a focus on the importance of relationships, equity, and accountability.
- Academic Excellence: Students will achieve success in their learning goals
- Character: Students will demonstrate respect, responsibility, and perseverance
- Engagement: Students will actively participate in relevant and meaningful learning
- Well-Being: Students will develop the skills to make healthy choices
"To achieve our vision and help our students reach these four goals, we need to make a promise to our students, to their parents and caregivers, and to our community," said Director of Education Barry MacDougall. "Our commitment is we will create learning experiences that inspire all students to reach their potential."
