Elementary Montessori program begins in September at City Park

May 04, 2016

CityParkexterior_web.jpgSaskatoon Public Schools will offer a Montessori program beginning in the 2016-17 school year.

The decision to start the program, which will be located at City Park School, comes following several months of discussion and planning with Maria Montessori Preschool and Elementary (MMS), which currently offers a program for students age 2 to Grade 8 as a not-for-profit charitable organization.
“At Saskatoon Public Schools, we pride ourselves in offering diverse programming that is accessible to all learners. Adding a Montessori option provides families with a unique educational opportunity where their children follow the provincial curriculum through the Montessori philosophy,” said Director of Education Barry MacDougall.

Information about the program and registration is now available for download. Download HERE.
“The parents, staff and board of MMS are excited to join Saskatoon Public Schools as the first public Montessori program in Saskatchewan. We see this as a wonderful opportunity to partner with Saskatoon Public Schools as they lead the way toward innovative educational programs in the province,” said MMS Board Chair Marnie Hilland.
Saskatoon Public Schools will offer a Grade 1 – 8 program at City Park School. This program will operate with the same staffing, resource and facility support provided to all other division schools. Teachers in the new Montessori program will have the specialized training required to lead a Montessori program. There will be no tuition for students attending the school division program.
Maria Montessori will lease space at City Park School to continue offering an early learning program for students age 2-5. This early learning program will be operated independently from the school division. Students attending the early learning program will have the option to continue in the Montessori elementary program offered by the school division.
