Lakeridge School unveils new school logo

June 10, 2020

lakeridgelogo_news.jpgA new school logo will continue to inspire students at Lakeridge School to soar to success.

The logo, unveiled as Lakeridge marked 30 years since its opening, embraces the original theme of S.O.A.R.ing (success, organization, attitude, and responsibility) to Success that was introduced when the school opened in 1989.

"We felt that a refresh was timely after three decades of use," said Principal Kevin Epp. "The goal was to create a striking logo that honoured qualities of the original logo — colours, taking flight, soaring —while presenting a playful and fun tone with originality and imagination."

The logo features a paper airplane swooping through the school name, all rendered in the school colours of royal blue and Kelly green. It was developed in consultation with the school division's graphics staff.

"We are excited to share this news with our students and families," Epp said. "Unfortunately, we weren't able to gather together to celebrate and unveil the logo, but this new look will be a part of our school when students return in the fall. There will be also opportunities for students to sport our new look as they keep Soaring to Success."

Students and staff moved into the new Lakeridge School on Dec. 1, 1989, and the official opening was held the following May with 185 students and 12 teaching staff during the first year. Enrollment eventually topped 600 students as Lakeridge and surrounding neighbourhoods developed. A facility addition in 2002 included a small gym, resource room, band storage room and additional washrooms to meet the needs of students and staff. Lakeridge currently has an enrolment of just over 400 students.
