Saskatoon Public Schools welcomed more than 500 new students in Sept.

enrolment-news.jpgMore than 500 new students were welcomed to Saskatoon Public Schools this fall, according to information presented at the Board of Education's Oct. 24 meeting.

Enrolment numbers to the end of September showed a total enrolment of 24,891 students in kindergarten to Grade 12 programs, an increase of 546 students from 2016.

Most of the increase came at the elementary level with 16,251 students enrolled in the division's 49 schools, two associate schools and one alliance school. Kindergarten enrolment division-wide was 1,906 students, up 116 students from the previous year. There are an additional 539 students registered in prekindergarten programs.

At the high school level, enrolment in the division's 10 secondary schools stood at 8,640 students as of the end of September.

Enrolment in the French immersion program increased by 135 students to a total of 2,516. The number of students requiring English as an additional language support was reported as 2,733, a slight increase from 2016.
