In just a year of construction, the new Willowgrove School has quickly taken shape. Construction remains on schedule and the school is expected to open in September 2014.
The exterior wall framing and boarding is close to completion and the window frames are installed. The exterior block work is started on the park side of the school and will continue to wrap around both the north and south sides of the building, with the front of the school being complete this fall.
The roofers have been busy installing the roof of the lower west side of the school and will continue to install roofing membrane into the fall. The second floor concrete deck has been poured, which will allow the mechanical and electrical contractors to continue running services into rooms throughout the school.
Rough grading will be started later in August in preparation for the hard landscaping to be completed. The project is progressing as a critical point in construction is reached; getting the building water tight before the cooler weather arrives, allowing contractors to focus on completing the interior of the building.
This school year, Willowgrove School principal Shane Armstrong will be dedicated full-time to getting the new school ready. Mr. Armstrong will be working from an office in Dr. John G. Egnatoff School, allowing him to be present in the community during the last year of construction. If you have inquiries about the new school, you can reach Mr. Armstrong by email at [email protected] or by phone at 306-683-7971.
During the coming school year, community consultation will be pursued to develop the identity of the school. For updates and announcements, please check our new Willowgrove School website accessible under the Schools listing at www.saskatoonpublicschools.ca.
