Homestay

Living with a Canadian family is one of the most meaningful parts of the international student experience. Through SIE’s in-house Homestay Program, students are thoughtfully matched with welcoming families and supported by a local team who knows them personally.

With direct oversight and strong relationships between schools, students, and host families, we ensure every student feels safe, cared for, and set up for success.

Why Choose Homestay?

Living with a Canadian family helps students:

  • Improve English quickly. Daily conversation in a relaxed home environment builds confidence and fluency.
  • Experience Canadian culture firsthand. Traditions, celebrations, and everyday routines help students feel connected to their new community.
  • Feel at home. A supportive household provides comfort, encouragement, and stability while studying abroad.
  • Stay safe and supported. Our team is available to assist students and families whenever needed, including 24/7 emergency support.

How Our In-House Homestay Program Works

Our dedicated Homestay Coordinator and school-based SIE Advisors work closely with students, parents, schools, and agents to ensure every placement is positive and successful.

We:

  • We carefully review each student’s interests, personality, dietary needs, and preferences to ensure the best possible match.
  • Maintain consistent standards of care and communication
  • Provide ongoing check-ins and guidance throughout the stay
  • Offer 24/7 emergency support

Our Host Families

Canada is known for its diversity — and so are our families.

Some families have young children, some have teenagers, and others have adult children who have already left home. Some homes are busy and lively, while others are quieter and smaller.

Some families have lived in Canada for generations. Others are newer Canadians who remember what it felt like to arrive here for the first time — and who are especially passionate about welcoming students with warmth and understanding.

What they all share is a genuine desire to open their home, share their lives, and help students feel safe, included, and valued.

All host families complete a thorough screening process, including:

  • Detailed applications
  • Personal interviews
  • Reference checks
  • Criminal record checks
  • Home inspections

What Students Receive

Each student in homestay is provided with:

  • A home where English is the primary language spoken
  • A private bedroom with a comfortable bed, storage, and study space
  • Three meals per day plus snacks
  • Access to bathroom and laundry facilities
  • Internet access
  • Airport pickup and drop-off

Before arrival, students receive a host family profile with photos and contact information so they can connect before coming to Canada.

Ongoing Support

Students have regular check-ins with our Homestay Coordinator and SIE Advisors throughout their stay. Parents and agents may contact our team at any time in case of emergency.

Our goal is simple: every student should feel safe, respected, included, and supported.
