Tommy Douglas improv troupe heading to nationals after provincial win

The improvisation troupe from Tommy Douglas Collegiate is heading to the national stage after winning the provincial title at the Saskatchewan Improv Games on March 7 in Regina.

The team will now travel to Ottawa to represent Saskatchewan at the Canadian Improv Games, taking place April 15–18 at the National Arts Centre. The event will bring together high school improv teams from across the country to compete, collaborate, and showcase their creativity.

For the students involved, the opportunity represents the culmination of months of preparation and teamwork.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our improv students and teachers here at Tommy Douglas,” says principal Kevin McNarland. “We’re the only competitive improv group in Saskatoon, and they competed against more than a dozen teams from Regina and across the province to earn this opportunity. I knew this group was strong, and now others across the country will get to see that too.”

Hard work paying off

According to head coach Mike Prebble, the provincial win reflects the dedication and commitment students have shown throughout the season.

“We’re thrilled to have this opportunity for our students, our school, and the division,” says Prebble. “The teams at provincials are always talented and make for some tough competition. I’m incredibly pleased to see these students earn this chance at nationals. They’ve worked hard for it.”

Improv challenges performers to think quickly, collaborate with teammates, and create stories on the spot—skills that translate far beyond the stage.

One more show before nationals

Before heading to Ottawa, the troupe will perform once more for the Saskatoon community at the Saskatoon Night of Improv, alongside four other teams. The show is open to all.
