Board of Education meeting highlights – March 3, 2026
The Saskatoon Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on March 3.
The meeting began with a presentation about Elevate Athletic Camps, a program supporting student-athletes at Bedford Road Collegiate, Mount Royal Collegiate, and Tommy Douglas Collegiate.
Elevate works to remove financial barriers to sport by providing basketball and volleyball camps — with track programming coming soon — so more students have the opportunity to participate in athletics.
Teachers involved in the program shared that access is at the heart of Elevate. When financial barriers arise, organizers work creatively to ensure students can still take part.
They also expressed appreciation for the program’s community partners, including the City of Saskatoon and the Community Initiatives Fund, whose support helps make the camps possible.
Students spoke to the positive impact the program has had on their lives, sharing how it helps them build confidence, develop leadership skills, and form meaningful connections with teammates and athletes from other schools.
One teacher-coach noted that every young person deserves access to high-level coaching, adding that Elevate is helping make that possible for more students. She also described Elevate student-athletes as among the most coachable young people she has worked with.
Perhaps the most powerful reflection came from a student who summed up the experience simply: “Elevate gave me a place to belong.”
Other agenda items
The Board also considered several additional items during the meeting, including:
- Strategic Plan Accountability Report: Well-Being
- Approval of a director for the Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation
