Report to Community shares stories of student learning, success

Stories of learning, achievement, and student success fill the pages of Saskatoon Public Schools' Report to Community for 2018-19.

The annual publication, which recognizes the work of students, staff and schools and illustrates the ways in which the school division strives to provide inspiring learning each and every day, can be read online or at one of our schools.

I hope you enjoy reading this book that is overflowing with the triumphs and accomplishments of our students," said Trustee Ray Morrison, who served as chair of the Board of Education during the 2018-19 school year. "Please keep in mind that every finished project, community award, and academic achievement for our students would not have been possible without a team of dedicated teachers and support and professional staff members. Through good days and bad, they remain committed to supporting the learning journey and personal development of every student. They are making a difference in the lives of our students and the future of our community."

The report highlights example of how the school division is supporting student learning in key areas such as special education and student services, First Nation, Inuit and Métis education, career and work education, safe and caring schools, mathematics and the Move To Grow initiative.

Stories of student success and innovation in academics, the arts and athletics carry throughout the report alongside the individual achievements and recognition provided to the division's teachers and staff during the past school year. Unique projects and opportunities that schools use to support learning and engage both students and the wider Saskatoon community are also a part of the publication.

"Every year when we put this book together, I am amazed by the accomplishments of our students, creativity among our staff, and incredible experiences shared at each of our schools," said Director of Education Barry MacDougall.

"The students, families, and staff members who make up our school division come from diverse cultural backgrounds, personal experiences, faiths, identities, and abilities, but they all have a place in our schools. This book is a testament to the value of public education."

The book highlights the many important partnerships with community, business and public sector groups that support students and schools and play an important role in the success of our students the school division.

"Public education is designed to serve the entire community," Morrison said. "However, our work wouldn't be possible without the numerous community partnerships we have fostered. These collaborations have created incredible learning opportunities and supportive spaces for our students."
