A unique partnership between Aden Bowman Collegiate, Saskatoon Transit and the Métis community was highlighted during the Celebrating Excellence portion of the Nov. 27 Board of Education meeting.
A bus shelter located at the school was transformed into a piece of art that recognizes the history of the school’s location as the site of a Métis community garden. The bus shelter was designed by students in consultation with Métis Senator Elder Nora Cummings, and its unique, metal-cut walls represent and share the story. Trustees received an update on mathematics education. Teachers are expanding instructional strategies to build number sense and provide support to First Nation and Métis students and English language learners. Gains in computational fluency among students, and the ability to respond quickly to the needs of teachers and students, are being realized as a result of professional learning opportunities for teachers. The update shared examples of mathematics leadership and its impact on student learning.
