About Our School
Welcome to wâhkôhtowin School!

We are a vibrant school that is home to families of many cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds, including First Nations, Métis and new immigrants to Canada. We are a prekindergarten to Grade 8 school that hosts a Nêhiyâwiwin Cree Language and Culture program, which includes free busing from anywhere in the city.

wâhkôhtowin is fortunate to have resource teachers on staff to support student learning. Programming for English as an Additional Language students is also available. Our school is home to an alternate education program for students with special learning needs, as well as a parent cooperative childcare facility — as they grow, children from the daycare can easily transition to our school setting.

Our school supports learning for all members of our school family, and we are committed to creating a welcoming environment for all. wâhkôhtowin offers numerous learning opportunities and activities, some of which include an award-winning literacy program, hands-on math initiatives, extensive arts education programming, an emphasis on research skills and outdoor learning programs.

Our School Community Council (SCC) actively provides input into the education of our students. We invite parents to become members of the SCC and to help contribute to the life and vitality of the school. We are a nutrition-positive and nut-aware school that promotes healthy lifestyle choices. We provide an emergency breakfast and lunch program for families who are struggling with food security and a healthy universal snack to aid in student learning.

Our staff, students and community adhere to the motto, "Keys to Success Through Respect, Responsibility and Positive Relationships." We strive to create a safe, warm environment where all students and families feel welcome and valued.

At wâhkôhtowin, we celebrate lifelong learning and invite you to join us!
