École Henry Kelsey is unique among all other Saskatoon Public Schools in Saskatoon: We offer a single stream French Immersion education. What this means is that French Immersion is the only program in the school. This adds many benefits to the immersion experience i.e., our teachers are all bilingual and passionate about teaching French; French is the working language of the school; assemblies and special events are all presented in French; and, all supports and resources are available in French.
Our school provides a wonderful opportunity for children to learn how to speak, read, and write in French. The future opportunities for our students are unlimited as they move on to the world of work, post-secondary education or travel. More than eight million Canadians speak French. 160 million people around the globe live and work in French.
Our French Immersion program follows the curricula of the provincial Ministry of Education. The curriculum guidelines are the same as those used in the English program. Parents do not have to speak French for their children to be in an immersion program; however, many parents report learning the language with their children as they advance through the program. Our library is well-stocked with both French and English books for easy reading and research.
Our students participate in all extracurricular activities and often compete in sporting events with other schools in the city. We hold an annual Talent Show to showcase our students' skills in song, dance, and drama. École Henry Kelsey students are deeply aware of the environment and participate in Destination Conservation, a program designed to reduce our energy consumption. We work closely with our School Community Council and keep in close communication with all parents.
Our school has over 250 students enrolled from Kindergarten to Grade 8. Our students come to us from across Saskatoon's west side and two-way transportation is provided at no cost to families. Upon entering École Henry Kelsey, parents report sensing a warm, inviting climate. As you walk around the school, you will encounter happy students, wonderful art work on the walls, and vibrant and energetic classrooms.
