Silverspring School serves a large number of students who are learning English as an Additional Language (EAL) and these students are served by a qualified EAL teacher.
We used a mixed service delivery model that combines students being pulled from their regular classroom for instruction in English (Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening) and classroom teachers using effective strategies to support the students during regular instruction. The amount of time students are pulled from the classroom depends on their initial language assessment. The lower the skills in English, the more they will be pulled for intensive English instruction. As students’ progress in their acquisition of the language, the more time they spend in the regular classroom.
