Welcome to wâhkôhtowin School!

We are a vibrant prekindergarten to Grade 8 school that welcomes families from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures. Our staff provide a warm and family-like atmosphere where students feel supported to learn.

Programs

wâhkôhtowin offers an award-winning literacy program, hands-on math initiatives, extensive arts education programming, and an emphasis on research skills and outdoor learning.

Our school is home to the unique Nêhiyâwiwin Cree Language and Culture program, which includes free busing from anywhere in the city. Highlights include:

• A bicultural/bilingual Cree program offered from Prekindergarten to Grade 8, including a Full-Day, Every Day Kindergarten option.
• Emphasis on land-based learning experiences and leadership in the middle years.
• Conversational Cree Language in the "Y" dialect.
• Students from across Saskatoon are welcome.
• Transportation is provided.

Additional programs and supports include:

• A parent cooperative childcare facility, supporting an easy transition into the school setting as children grow
• Resource teachers on staff to support student learning
• English as an Additional Language program
• An alternate education program for students with special learning needs

School History and Culture

wâhkôhtowin School was established in 1974 as Confederation Park Community School. The school received its current name in 2020, which means “relations/relationships/being related” and is often used to describe kinship. The name was changed as part of celebrations for the 10-year anniversary of the nêhiyâwiwin Cree Language and Culture Program. Upper case letters are not used in the Cree language, which is reflected in our school name.

Our School Community Council (SCC) actively provides input into the education of our students. We invite parents to become members of the SCC and to help contribute to the life and vitality of the school. We are a nutrition-positive and nut-aware school that promotes healthy lifestyle choices. We provide an emergency breakfast and lunch program for families who are struggling with food security and a healthy universal snack to aid in student learning.

Our staff, students and community adhere to the motto, "Keys to Success Through Respect, Responsibility and Positive Relationships." We strive to create a safe, warm environment where all students and families feel welcome and valued.
