Community Schools
Saskatoon Public Schools’ Community Schools are welcoming, inclusive places where students, families, staff, and community partners work together to help every child thrive.
Community Schools recognize that student success is connected to the well-being of the whole child and the strength of the community around them. Along with high-quality teaching and learning, these schools work to connect students and families with additional opportunities, resources, and supports that can make a meaningful difference.
Families often value Community Schools for their strong sense of belonging, caring relationships and welcoming, family-centred atmosphere.
Connecting families with opportunities and supports
Each Community School has a Community School Coordinator who works closely with students, families, school staff, and community organizations.
Coordinators help identify opportunities and connect families with resources that support student success and well-being. Depending on the needs of the school community and the resources available, this may include:
- Food and nutrition supports
- Clothing and other essential items
- Recreation and sports equipment
- Opportunities for children and youth to participate in activities
- Field trips, excursions and special experiences
- Connections to community programs and services
- Family and community events
- Other supports that help remove barriers to student participation and success
Community School Coordinators also build partnerships with organizations, businesses, and community members who want to make a positive difference for children and families.
The Good Food Lab
All Saskatoon Public Schools Community Schools benefit from the Good Food Lab, a Saskatoon Public Schools' initiative focused on nourishing students while building lifelong knowledge and skills around food.
The Good Food Lab provides healthy meals and snacks while creating opportunities for students to learn about nutrition, food choices, and how to prepare nutritious foods.
It is about more than providing food. It helps students develop confidence, curiosity, and practical skills that contribute to lifelong health and well-being.
