Traditional Knowledge Keeper supports students at Walter Murray

March 02, 2022

Tim Eashappie.jpgThe First Nation, Inuit, and Métis Education Unit at Saskatoon Public Schools has launched a pilot program that sees Traditional Knowledge Keepers provide in-school support for First Nation, Inuit, and Métis ways of knowing, being and doing.

The knowledge keepers spend four days a week in the school for a period of eight to 10 weeks. Each Traditional Knowledge Keeper chose a school for the first phase of the program.

Tim Eashappie is working with Walter Murray Collegiate for Phase 2 that ends in early April. We are grateful for this opportunity to learn with a Traditional Knowledge Keeper and explore how to engage in Indigenous content in our classrooms and with our students. Their perspective and presence can foster inclusion and promote understanding to support our shared journey of reconciliation. Having Tim join our classrooms or support a student is an opportunity to share First Nations, Métis and Inuit knowledge, cultural beliefs, and traditional practices.

Tim started his work at Walter Murray on Feb. 9 and is based out of the culture room. Learn more about Tim and his gifts here.
