City Centre Project: misiwe-kisik | One Sky
In March 2020, the provincial government committed to fund a new, centrally located Prekindergarten to Grade 8 school to serve the communities of King George, Pleasant Hill, and Riversdale. The King George School, which currently serves these communities, requires cost-prohibitive renovations. It will close when the new central school opens its doors.
On February 13, 2026, the school's name was officially announced: misiwe-kisik | One Sky. The project budget is $29 million. The school will have capacity for 400 students, with an anticipated initial enrollment of 350 students. Additionally, it's expected that the facility will include 74 new childcare spaces.
In consultation with students, families, staff and community, trustees approved the former site of Princess Alexandra School as the location of the new school (210 Avenue H S). The target opening date is September 2027.
The design of the new school has involved comprehensive consultation with the province, staff, students, families and community partners. It's anticipated that the structure will fit well with the needs of future students and the surrounding communities.
As part the school division’s preexisting memorandum of understanding with the Saskatoon Tribal Council, partners will work together in determining programming ideas that best support the school and community. Discussion with other partners is also taking place.
It's expected that several options for the redevelopment of King George will be considered in consultation with the local community and other relevant stakeholders. This will be integral to the successful outcome for the entire project.
