About Kindergarten

Kindergarten is a special time in the life of a young child. Saskatoon Public Schools are open to all children and dedicated to embracing every student in a welcoming and safe environment. We understand the importance of early learning. Our kindergarten classes are small to encourage individualized education and include a strong literacy component.

If your child will be 5 years old by Dec. 31, 2026, they can start kindergarten in September 2026.

Kindergarten Programs at Saskatoon Public Schools

We recognize that families have differing needs. We offer multiple kindergarten schedules:

Full Day, Every Day Kindergarten

We're especially proud to offer Full Day, Every Day Kindergarten at 25 schools for 2026-27. Since 2019, this program has been made possible through the generous support of the Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation.

Full Day, Every Day Kindergarten spaces are limited. For this reason, the spaces are first offered to families that reside in the school catchment area. If there are spaces remaining, they are available on a first come first served basis. Some schools do maintain a waiting list.

As of September 8, 2026, the following schools still had Full Day, Every Day Kindergarten spaces available:

Transportation

Contact your school to find out if transportation is available for your location. When a student qualifies for transportation, parents/caregivers register for transportation through the school. Bus service is only available at the start and end of the school; there is no midday bus transportation available to/from the school. More information is available here: Transportation - Saskatoon Public Schools (spsd.sk.ca).

Kindergarten Open Houses

We host kindergarten open houses so families can tour the school facility, meet staff, and explore the different program options available. These take place during January and February at most schools.
