Communication Protocol for Families
At Saskatoon Public Schools, we believe that a strong partnership between school staff and family is key to each child’s success.
The following guidelines support open and respectful communication between school and home:
- Approach any problems with a sense of partnership between families and school staff, knowing that you share the goal of a positive outcome for the student.
- Ensure respectful and polite communication.
- While both school and home have similar goals to support students, differing experiences and opinions need to be considered.
- Actively listen to others with the goal of understanding.
- Recognize that privacy rules can, at times, limit the information that can be shared.
- Generally, families can expect a response to any new inquiry in two business days. Although channels like Edsby can provide quick communication, it’s important that school staff have time to provide you with a thorough response.
If you have a concern about your child’s experience, we ask that you approach school staff in the order listed below. If the issue is unresolved, you may wish to proceed to the next step to elevate your concern.
- Contact your child's teacher. Most of your concerns will be dealt with at the classroom level.
- Contact the principal of the school. Other appropriate staff might be involved at this level to deal with the issue.
- Contact your school's superintendent. Contact information for superintendents can be found here.
- Contact the Director of Education. Contact information for the director can be found here.
- Contact the Board of Education, either your school trustee of the board chair. Contact information for trustees can be found here.
