* Core French is distinct from French Immersion. At schools that offer Core French, the French language is taught as one subject among others, with the aim of developing basic communication skills in French. In French Immersion, core subjects (e.g. Math, Science, Social Studies, etc.) are taught primarily in French. The goal of French Immersion is functional bilingualism — students can think, learn, and communicate academically in both English and French.
