Ward 5 Trustee By-Election - Election Day is Oct 28
A by-election will be held October 28, 2026, to fill the vacant Ward 5 trustee position on the Saskatoon Public Schools Board of Education.
Ward 5 includes the following Saskatoon Public Schools: Brownell, Lawson Heights, River Heights, Silverwood Heights and Silverspring schools, as well as Marion M. Graham Collegiate.
Saskatoon Public Schools is organized into 10 wards for election and school representation purposes. While trustees are elected within individual wards, once elected, they represent all students and families across the school division. Learn more about the role of trustees.
The Candidates
Five candidates are seeking election: Murray Guest, Kim Hoffart, Doug Porteous, Janet Uchacz-Hart, and Ryan Vanjoff.
On October 6, Saskatoon Public Schools hosted a Candidate Forum at Silverwood Heights School, giving candidates an opportunity to introduce themselves to Ward 5 voters, explain why they are seeking election, answer questions from the community, and discuss what they would bring to the role.

Voting
To be eligible to vote in the Ward 5 by-election, you must:
- be at least 18 years of age;
- be a Canadian citizen;
- have resided in Saskatchewan for at least six consecutive months;
- have resided in the City of Saskatoon for at least three consecutive months; and
- currently reside within the boundaries of Civic Ward 5.

Eligible voters can vote during the advance poll or on election day:
- Advance Poll: October 21, 2026, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., at Rusty Macdonald Library.
- Election Day: October 28, 2026, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., at any of the following locations: Rusty Macdonald Library, École Silverspring School, Brownell School, Silverwood Heights School, Lawson Heights School, École River Heights School
