Academic/Work Placement program for Career Education Students
Saskatoon Public Schools (SPS) recognizes that Career Education is an increasingly important core strategy area because we live in a society where change is constant, the employment environment is continually evolving, and our graduates can expect to change jobs 7-17 times during their working life. In order to address the experiential learning needs of our highly academic Grade 12 students, the Academic Research/Work Placement Program, which has been in existence since 2003, provides these highly motivated, self-directed learners with incredible opportunities in a wide variety of academically challenging 10-week research/work placements at the University of Saskatchewan and within the Saskatoon business
community. During these real-world experiential learning opportunities, our Academic Placement students have the privilege of exploring science and other disciplines at a whole new level, with mentoring coming from nationally and internationally renowned researchers, scientists and other professionals. As a result, our students are much better equipped to make important post-secondary and career path decisions. Students go through an application, interview and selection process prior to entry into this program.

Two former Academic Research/Work Placement students, who are now doing their post-secondary studies at the U of S, will share their experiences with the Academic Research/Work Placement Program when they were in Grade 12, and how the program influenced their current career path decisions.
