Kindergarten is a special time in the life of a young child. Saskatoon Public Schools are open to all children and dedicated to embracing every student in a welcoming and safe environment. We understand the importance of early learning. Our kindergarten classes are small to encourage individualized education and include a strong literacy component.
If your child will be five years old by January 31, 2025, they can start kindergarten in the fall of 2024.
Note: As of the 2025-26 school year, children will be eligible for kindergarten if they reach the age of five on or before December 31 of that school year.
Kindergarten Programs
We offer a variety of kindergarten programs, including:
Individual schools offer different program schedules, including:
- Half day, every day
- Full day, alternating day
- Full day, every day.
The
Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation supports full day, every day kindergarten programs in 25 schools throughout the city. Spaces within programs are limited and students are selected through an application process. Applications are reviewed by a school team and priority is given to children who reside in the school catchment (neighbourhood) and who require additional time to develop kindergarten readiness skills.
