Programming for middle years' students ranges from one-day excursions to a three-day, two-night experiences. The
Brightwater site and programming align with
Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action,
Best Place Education and
Education for Sustainable Development. Learning is experiential in nature and supports subject areas from an inquiry stance while honouring Indigenous identity and modelling Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being. Through Best Place educational practices and the three strands of Joseph Cornell’s “Flow Learning":
• Day 1 – Nature Immersion nature
• Day 2 – Nature Studies
• Day 3 – Giving Back and Environmental Work Projects
students take part in sensory awareness activities, investigate fascinating characteristics of plant and animal life, and carry out habitat enhancement and restoration projects. Individualized inquiry based programming are supported and optional schedule designs can be accommodated to personalize a Brightwater experience.
