Inspiring Learning
Secondary Program

The Brightwater site and programming align with Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, Best Place Education and Education for Sustainable Development. Learning is experiential in nature and supports subject areas from an inquiry stance while honouring Indigenous identity and modelling Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being. Brightwater acknowledges this is Treaty 6 land, the traditional wintering grounds of the Dakota First Nation, and is within the vicinity of the Round Prairie Métis settlement.  Teachers begin creating a meaingful Brightwater Experience by accessing and filling in our Brightwater High School Planning Sheet and sharing this information with the Brightwater Project Leader.

Facilitated sessions are generally 1.5 hours in duration.  This allows for the time needed to experience the land to collect data and explore inquiry questions from a variety of perspectives and within numerous subject areas. These sessions are planned collaboratively with the Brightwater Project Leader to make meaningful curricular connections that extend classroom learning by address outcomes best met through a Brightwater experience.

The 60-acre Saskatoon Public Schools parcel is the base for daytime secondary programming however, the programming is conducted over the entire interlocking  trail system that spans the 160 acres (100 acres is owned by the Salvation Army Beaver Creek Camp). Please see Secondary Teacher Resources for more information and resources.
