Curriculum
Over a two-year period (grades 11 and 12), IB diploma students study six academic subjects, one from each subject group (though a second Group 2 to 4 subject may supplant Group 6). Three subjects are studied at the standard level and three at the higher level.
  • Group 1: Studies in Language and Literature (Literature A or Language and Literature)
  • Group 2: Language Acquisition (French or German)
  • Group 3: Individuals and Societies (History)
  • Group 4: Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
  • Group 5: Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches, Application and Interpretation)
  • Group 6: The Arts (Visual Arts)
*Bilingual IB diploma option for Bedford Road students.

IB diploma students must also fulfill the requirements of the Theory of Knowledge course, the Creativity, Activity and Service program and the Extended Essay. The core elements are available to course students (some restrictions apply).
  • Theory of Knowledge (ToK) is a course that explores the links between subject areas. It is part existential, philosophical, psychological and metaphysical. It encourages students to consider what they know, how they know it, and how areas of knowledge are connected and interdependent.

  • The Creativity, Activity and Service program (CAS) incorporates the experiential component of the IB diploma. It encourages students to develop their potential in creative and active pursuits outside the classroom, and to develop a spirit of service in their school and community. This program offers balance in an IB student's pursuit of academic excellence.

  • The Extended Essay (EE) allows diploma students to do independent research in a subject area of interest and it culminates in a 4,000-word paper. Research begins in the first term of Grade 11 and the paper is due at the end of the first term in Grade 12. Students completing their Extended Essay have borrowing privileges at the University of Saskatchewan library.
Note: IB course students may choose individual courses, but timetable constraints may impact the number of choices available to them.
