Lessons learned through a language class can last a lifetime as the acquired skills are used for employment and/or travel, and the opportunity to learn about another culture is invaluable. There is an urgent requirement for qualified speakers of languages other than English in areas of science, technology, medicine and global commerce. It is also proven that students studying a second language have increased brain flexibility and superior divergent thinking and memory skills.
Secondary school students are welcome to choose the language of their choice as an elective at their respective secondary schools.
