About Kindergarten​

Kindergarten is a special time in the life of a young child. Saskatoon Public Schools are open to all children and dedicated to embracing every student in a welcoming and safe environment. We understand the importance of early learning. Our kindergarten classes are small to encourage individualized education and include a strong literacy component. 

If your child will be 5 years old by Dec. 31, 2025, they can start kindergarten in September 2025.​

Kindergarten Programs

We offer a variety of kindergarten programs, including:
  • Half day, every day
  • Full day, alternating day
  • Full day, every day.

Full Day Kindergarten

The Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation supports full day, every day kindergarten programs in 25 schools throughout the city. Spaces within programs are limited and students are selected through an application process. Applications are reviewed by a school team and priority is given to children who reside in the school catchment (neighbourhood) and who require additional time to develop kindergarten readiness skills.

​Note: Individuals applying for full-day kindergarten must complete an application form, which is part of online registration. Application to full-day kindergarten does NOT guarantee entry into the program. Space in some schools is limited, and these schools may have wait lists.


Transportation

Contact your school to find out if transportation is available for your location. When a student qualifies for transportation, parents/caregivers register for transportation through the school. Open Houses

Kindergarten open houses are held each year in January/February. For a list of all Jan/Feb 2024 open houses, click here​.

Registration for the 2025-2026 school year - including Kindergarten - will be available in January 2025.
